«Il Laboratorio di danza was born in 1999. […] The main purpose was and still is to promote a gathering and socialization space for girls / girls in the pre-adolescence and adolescence age group, promoting the exchange and comparison of experiences diverse and heterogeneous socio-cultural stories. Through the expressive and artistic instrument of dance, children, teenagers and adults have the opportunity to experiment with forms of body communication complementary to the verbal channel. The Workshop is based on the openness and acceptance of ethnic, cultural and different forms of ease and unease, through the study of different dance techniques. “
On the 15th anniversary of Il Laboratorio’s activity, a photo exhibition was set up in Cremona, at the San Vitale Cultural Centre (Piazza San’Angelo), open to visitors on wednesday 17th and thursday18th of December, 2014. Inside the exhibit location, Il Laboratorio sponsored several performances and didactic workshops.
The exhibition displayed more than a hundred snapshots, printed in different formats, bearing witness to more than a decade of work by Il Laboratorio. Here you can find the webgallery with some of the pictures taken during the reharsals of one of their dance performances.
This was not just a photographic exhibition. And it could not be otherwise, in the manner of Il Laboratorio. Because Il Laboratorio is not just a dance school.
I’ve been meeting the boys and girls of Il Laboratorio for about ten years now and each time I’m surprised by the strong and contagious spirit of participation and belonging you can feel there. The group of people taking part in the Laboratorio’s activities is numerous and completely heterogeneous; it is made up of people with histories and backgrounds extremely different from another which engage and blend with one another giving birth to intense and multifaceted alchemies. Anyone caught in it can’t help being overwhelmed.
Il Laboratorio’s peculiar formative and educational approach, its stylistic choices in the use of props and its contaminations with other art forms such as music and acting, make it a unique entity in Cremona’s landscape of dance.
